Follow our RDA Volunteer on her Rift Valley Trek 11th – 19th September

Our volunteer, Gill Ferguson has taken up the challenge and is training hard to go to Kenya in September to trek the Rift Valley with 29 other RDA group volunteers.

She is hoping to raise lots of money for the Stratford upon Avon RDA.

If you would like to sponsor Gill please go to her fundraising page http://www.charitygiving.co.uk/gillferguson

This is what she is doing:

The trek lasts 5.5 days. She flies to Nairobi on 11th September and starts her trek the next day arriving home on 19th.

The trek takes place in deepest Africa. She will encounter extinct volcanos, steep canyons and dramatic gorges. She will climb Mount Longonot and camp under the African skies.

Wednesday 12th September she will do a circular walk around Lake Naivasha – approx. 3 hours as a warm up. Overnight in Fisherman’s Camp.

Thursday 13th she will trek for 16km in Hell’s Gate National Park at an altitude of 2000 metres above sea level. Overnight in Naiburta campsite in the park.

Friday 14th she will begin with a 31/2 km walk to Hell’s Gate Gorge for abseiling and then enter into a steep canyon with fast running water, geysers and wild vegetation.

Saturday 15th she will trek for approx. 18km in Longonot National Park passing though the Kedong Ranch. The vast expanses should give everyone the feeling of being in the outback. Overnight in Logonot National Park.

Sunday 16th trekking approx. 7 hours. A difficult trek making the way up to the extinct volcano. Climbing some 550 metres from 2220 metres to 2750 metres above sea level. She will hike around the perimeter and experience fantastic views of the Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha.

Monday 17th trekking approx. 12 km. She transfers to Malewa and will trek across the Malewa River Gorge reaching the last crater pool. Transfer to hotel accommodation in Nakuru and a celebration and farewell dinner.

Tuesday 18th a day to relax in Nakuru transferring back to Nairobi in the evening for an overnight flight home to London.

An amazing landscape and a huge personal experience for Gill.

Thank you for your support.
