The Monday riders had a first experience of cantering on Charlie the mechanical horse based at our County Instructor’s yard. Each rider took a turn to ride Charlie and watched as they steered across the countryside on a TV screen in front. Charlie helped us to see whether our rider was in a balanced position in the saddle and gave them the physical movement of a horse through from a slow walk to a canter. For those with mobility problems it was noticeable how relaxed muscles became in a controlled environment whilst providing the valuable exercise – and they had fun!
