Preparations started earlier in the week, as ponies were groomed, tails washed & tack cleaned. On Thursday morning Badger was first onto the lorry, for the trip to Lowlands, but he soon made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere without his beloved Meg! And finally Marco made up the gang.
Seven of our riders attended & they all took part in the Handy Pony course, with some very high scoring rounds.
Many congratulations to Chris, riding Badger, who was well deserved winner of the senior unled class. His score of 88 was the best result of the whole day & Chris won a lovely trophy, to keep for a year.
Our riders dominated the senior led class, which was won convincingly by Matthew A, riding Badger. An emotional win for Matthew, who has only recently returned to riding following a break whilst he attended college. Jo P showed good skills on Marco to achieve second place, and Holly completed all the activities with enthusiasm, to win a third rosette.
In the junior class Olivia (Badger), Arthur (Meg) & Sean (Marco) all put in good performances, with support from their helpers, to win special rosettes.
All our riders also successfully took part in a “clear round” showjumping class. They enjoyed steering round a course of poles and were awarded rosettes for showing the correct approach & forward position. Everyone showed good skills in this new activity.
Some of our riders also proved their knowledge of grooming & looking after ponies by taking part in the stable management quiz. The day was rounded off with prize-giving, when our riders proudly collected their rosettes.
Special mention must go to Marco, Meg & “new boy” Badger. They were very busy all morning & behaved perfectly. They were much admired & were a credit to the Group.
Finally many thanks to all our helpers, who enabled our riders to have such fun & achieve so much – not just on the day but all the practising beforehand too!! Not to mention tack cleaning & shampooing ponies.
